I think what you are proposing is crucial, for young artists especially, to avoid becoming bitter. The creative act is a process not a result, and for better or for worse it only ends when we do. There are very few people who get to make a financial living out of it but the ones who have room in their lives to do it at all (counting ourselves here) are already so lucky. It's not easy, it takes sheer bloody-mindedness to carry on in spite of all the odds stacked against us, but those moments in flow, at the birth of something new and beautiful, are what life is all about.
