New Forms 002: An interview with Multi-hyphenate Black Dave Mk2

For the second interview for New forms I have a conversation with multi-hyphenate Black Dave about the slash generation, the death of blogs, and why algorithms put us in boxes we didn't choose.

Black Dave is a creative working at the intersection of anime, rap music, streetwear, and sneaker culture. That’s how he describes himself—not musician, not designer, not photographer, but all of those things (and more) held together by identity rather than medium.

I’ve been following Dave’s work since the early blockchain days. His Black Dave Token was one of the inspirations for the SOF Token model I used to fund SCENES. But more than that, he’s someone who’s been thinking seriously about what it means to be a multi-hyphenate creator in a world where platforms want to put you in a single box.

We talked about the slash generation, why Tumblr and blogs let us be more of ourselves than Instagram ever could, the 45-day album experiment he just finished, and the tension between building an identity and being defined by whatever format people discovered you through.
